Statement on the passing of former San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister
My heartfelt condolences go out to Dan McAllister’s family and loved ones during this time of loss.
Dan McAllister’s life of service began in the U.S. Peace Corps and never stopped. Our offices were key partners in serving the taxpayers. I had the privilege of working closely with Dan as both a mentor and a friend. For more than two decades, Dan served as the elected Treasurer-Tax Collector, he was a steady hand for San Diego County—a trusted fiscal guardian who safeguarded billions in public funds with integrity, discipline, and foresight. His leadership delivered stability through boom and bust, modernized public service, and earned the lasting confidence of taxpayers and local agencies alike.
Beyond government, Dan lived his values through service to the Jackie Robinson YMCA and the Boy Scouts, always leading with humility, generosity, and genuine care for others. His legacy of stewardship, service, and community will endure for generations.
Sincerely,
Jordan Z. Marks
Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk
