Professional Photocopier


Professional Photocopiers are those who, for compensation, obtain or reproduce documents authorized to be produced; and who, while engaged in performing that activity, have access to the information contained therein. Professional photocopiers shall be responsible at all times for maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of information obtained under California Civil and Evidence Codes in the transmittal or distribution of records to the authorized persons or entities.

Professional Registrations are only accepted in person at our San Diego Main Office from 8am to 3pm, Monday through Friday. 


To register as a Professional Photocopier in San Diego County, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Appear in person with a valid government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license, state identification card, or passport.

  • Have not been convicted of a felony.

  • Complete the Professional Photocopier - Individual registration form.

  • Submit a bond in the amount of $5,000 in favor of the County. The bond must must have original signatures, original acknowledgement, show the beginning and ending dates or show the term of the bond is two years.

  • At least one person involved in the management of the service must hold a current commission from the Secretary of State as a notary public. If the notary commission is held by someone other than the registrant, written confirmation from the notary authorizing the use of their commission for this registration is required.

To register as a Professional Photocopier in San Diego County, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Appear in person with a valid government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license, state identification card, or passport.

  • Have not been convicted of a felony.

  • Complete the Professional Photocopier - Corporation registration form.

  • Application must have signatures of all corporate officers/general partners.

  • Submit a bond in the amount of $5,000 in favor of the County. The bond must have original signatures, original acknowledgement, show the beginning and ending dates or show the term of the bond is two years.

  • At least one person involved in the management of the service must hold a current commission from the Secretary of State as a notary public. If the notary commission is held by someone other than the registrant, written confirmation from the notary authorizing the use of their commission for this registration is required.

  • If the corporation or individual have employees, please complete the Professional Photocopier Employee List form. An Employee ID card is $14 each. Provide one 1 in. x 1 in. photo (headshot only) for the identification card. Our office can provide the photo for a fee.

  • If filing a renewal, registration may be renewed up to 60 days prior to the current expiration date. 

Fees:

  • $175 Registration fee (includes one Identification Card);
    or $100 if also currently registered as a Process Server
  • $35 Filing fee
  • $14 Recording fee for the first page and $3 for each additional page
  • $32 Employee ID/Replacement Cards
  • $11 Identification Photos – Two 1 in. X 1 in.

The fee is payable by cash, check or money order, or credit/debit card.

An additional $2.50 surcharge is applicable for card payments.

Check or money order payable to: San Diego Recorder/County Clerk.
