2025 American Archives Month Celebration
SAN DIEGO, CA - In celebration of American Archives Month, San Diego County Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk Jordan Marks is proud to host a special cultural event at his County Archive honoring the rich heritage of our San Diego County tribal communities. This free, community-focused celebration will take place Saturday, October 4, 2024, starting at 8:30 AM at the Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk East County Office & Archives Building, located at 10144 Mission Gorge Road, Santee, CA 92071.
This free event invites guests to explore how archives serve as a powerful tool in preserving local heritage and amplifying historically underrepresented voices, especially those of tribal communities. Highlights include a dynamic panel discussion with cultural heritage experts and tribal representatives, a community archives tabling event, and an awards ceremony honoring Cultural Heritage Champions whose work has helped safeguard the culture and history of San Diego County by sharing our region’s diverse stories.
Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk Jordan Marks said, “I’m excited to welcome San Diegans to join me in celebrating American Archives Month, where they can learn about their County Archives and join me in honoring our San Diego County tribal communities.” Marks added, “Thanks to the hard work of my team, this year’s American Archives Month event will showcase a panel of cultural heritage experts and tribal representatives to share the rich history of our tribal communities, awards for excellence in their archival work, as well as, tours of our office archives with my expert staff of archivists to empower our community with valuable tips and resources so everyone can access our history and records.”

Attendees will also learn how to access and utilize archival records, connect with local history groups, and discover how archives can empower communities to shape their own narratives.

American Archives Month is national celebration led by the United States National Archives every October to promote the importance of archives in preserving cultural heritage and historical records. It’s a time when archives nationwide open their doors to highlight their collections, showcase stories, and celebrate the value of public records.

Jordan Marks was elected San Diego County Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk in 2022 to oversee the fifth largest Assessor jurisdiction in the United States. The office oversees assessing the value of real estate and personal property, which includes aircraft and boats. Marks has ushered in award-winning community outreach and education programs that have resulted in record-high property tax relief saving millions for veterans, homeowners, and seniors. He has modernized systems adding more online services and reducing paper waste. Marks was awarded the 2024 San Diego County Taxpayer Watchdog award for saving taxpayers millions of dollars in property taxes.
