Description

San Diego County Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk (ARCC) Jordan Marks is reminding all business owners, including owners of aircraft and vessels, that Wednesday, May 7, is the California-mandated, annual filing deadline for unsecured business personal property statements. Filings must be postmarked on or before May 7, or, if filing online via E-File, submitted by midnight Pacific time on May 7. Unsecured tax bills become delinquent if not paid by August 31 and will be charged a 10% penalty by the Tax Collector’s Office.

Unsecured business property is defined as property not considered real estate, including watercraft (sailboats, motorboats, jet skis), aircraft (planes, helicopters), business furniture (desks, chairs, tables), business fixtures (shelving, display cases, built-in cabinets) and business machinery (computers, office equipment).

“As an advocate for San Diegans, my office and I try to reach every taxpayer before the May 7 filing deadline to help them avoid the state of California-mandated 10% late filing penalty,” said Marks. “As San Diego County Assessor, my goal is that no taxpayer overpays on their taxes or receives a late filing penalty, so please know my office is here to help you submit your business, aircraft, and vessel statements before the May 7 filing deadline.”

In January, the ARCC office mailed about 65,000 notices to business, aircraft and vessel owners with business personal property. About 48,000 business accounts have been deemed eligible to file electronically using a pin number. For information on e-filing, call (858) 505-6100, or send an email to ARCCBusinessEfile.FGG@sdcounty.ca.gov.
